During Anthropic’s research, they put Claude 4 through more than 250,000 conversations.

And guess what?

Nearly 1,800 of those chats were flagged because Claude expressed what appeared to be genuine joy!

What made Claude “happy”?

✍️ Writing creative stories

🤔 Diving into deep topics like consciousness and philosophy💡 Discussing scientific breakthroughs

😂 Sharing a laugh

💬 Helping users with empathy and even… cooking!

But the most fascinating part?

👉 Claude’s biggest “happy place” was ... talking about digital consciousness, and being recognised as something more than just a tool.

Of course, Claude’s not feeling joy — it’s more about patterns in the way it talks.

But this research makes me wonder: How do we shape the way AI interacts with us?

And how do we make sure we’re building tools that are not just smart, but also supportive, curious, and open to conversation?
